About Us

The current CTU leadership has been ineffective, both in the negotiation of contracts, organizing charter schools, suppressing the loss of jobs, and the handling of day-to-day crises.

The Stewart administration continues to squelch democracy within the organization, becoming more and more autocratic with each House of Delegates meeting, despite the fact that the CTU Constitution states that the House of Delegate vote precludes all others.   Because of the effort to prevent any adverse voting by the delegates, little CTU business has been presented by the House over the past year.

The Stewart administration has brought the CTU to the verge of bankruptcy, putting us under the shame of the financial oversight by the American Federation of Teachers.

The CSDU can do much better.
We will restore democratic principles to the Chicago Teachers Union. Delegates will be allowed speak freely and make motions.
We will bring the union back to financial solvency by reducing expenses and making cuts and reductions where necessary.
We will negotiate contract articles that stop the loss of jobs and the proliferation of charter schools, and the restoration of seniority rights.
We will assure the same rights and protections for our PSRPs as have been written for our teachers, through clearly worded contract language.
Above all, we will demand respect.
We vow that we will fight and never give up on these issues, which we think are most important to our members.
